The Search Continues
If you are like many, you are searching through a sea of job listing hoping to land your next role. It is often said that finding a job is a full time job, and by many standards that is 100% accurate. However, there are some things you can do to be intentional about your search that makes it feel less doom and gloom.
Mindset matters - Don’t focus your energy on the rejection emails, they’re going to come. Instead channel all of your energy in the direction of landing the role that’s meant for you. Only apply to jobs that match your interest and align with your resume and assume if it’s a no that just means it wasn’t for you. But keep in mind that you’re getting closer to find the one that is.
Use technology - LinkedIn and Indeed (my top 2 choices) have great resources for assisting in your search. Both have “easy apply” features where once your resume is added to your profile you can apply to a job with a few clicks, this allows you to apply to jobs while doing just about anything. Also they both have features where you can setup search alerts where they will email you directly when postings aligned with your dream job are added.
Make connections - Send your resume to recruiters and setup phone screens to discuss opportunities they may have available. Most recruiter companies have special industries they work in, find the one that works in yours and send your resume to them ALL! Reach out to the people who posted the job in hopes of getting your eyes on your resume directly! Do not harass them or send them multiple messages, but it doesn’t hurt to send 1 simple follow up so they know to look for yours in the sea of resumes they’re looking for.
Consistency is key - Be sure to be consistent in filling your pipeline. Make it a game, for every rejection email send 3 more applications. For every interview you book, send out 5 more applications. Or even create a cadence around how often you’re submitting applications (mine is 5/workday), but avoid excessively high numbers like 50/day (you don’t want to get burned out)
